Diagnosing Sleep Apnea
If you or a loved one has symptoms of sleep apnea, Dr. Farnad will complete a full sleep apnea evaluation in which he will review your medical history, family medical history, and will conduct a sleep test, or polysomnogram. Our office does home sleep tests, which allow the patient to complete the sleep study in their own home to maximize patient comfort and relaxation. Other offices often send patients to sleep labs. However, we understand the anxiety and inconvenience and sleeping away from home and want to accommodate our patients to the best of our ability.
During the sleep study, recorded electrical signals generated by your brain and muscle activity, through the device are measured and recorded. In addition, the patient’s breathing and blood oxygen levels are monitored through the sleep study equipment.
Dr. Farnad will also take a CT scan of the patient. This allows the doctor to get a good look at any enlargement in the tongue, check of excessive soft tissue in the neck, and to determine which airway is the most narrow. Dr. Farnad’s office utilizes state-of-the-art CT equipment, allowing the patient to complete a proper evaluation all in one place.
